Bronny James will play his college ball for USC. The 2023 combo guard from Los Angeles (Calif.) Sierra Canyon announced his commitment to the Trojans on his Instagram page on Saturday.

James is the son of LeBron James, a 4-time NBA champion and the league’s all-time scoring leader. Given the high-profile nature of the family, Bronny’s recruitment has been kept mostly close to the vest.  The Trojans were believed to be going up against Ohio State and Oregon for James’ signature.

LeBron’s ties to Ohio State had the Buckeyes squarely in the mix. But, in the end, the Trojans gave Bronny the ability to attend college in the same city where his father currently plays basketball. That was going to be a tough option to beat.

James stands 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. He’s a 5-star prospect in the industry-generated 247 Composite and ranked as the No. 21 overall recruit in the class. He’s also the No. 5 combo guard and the No. 4 prospect from the state of California.

He averaged 13.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.8 steals during his senior season for Sierra Canyon — a program that won the Mission League title in 3 of his 4 years on the team.

The Buckeyes currently have 4 signed to their 2023 class — a group that ranks top-10 nationally. Four-star combo guard Taison Chatman headlines a freshman class that also includes 4-star forward Devin Royal and 4-star wing Scotty Middleton. The Buckeyes have also signed 3-star center Austin Parks and added 3 from the transfer portal.
