Broyles Award winner is something that many assistant coaches would love to add to their resume. There were plenty of B1G assistant coaches who were announced as semifinalists for the honor on Monday.
5 B1G assistants from around the conference were selected. 15 total assistant coaches are in the running now. The SEC, ACC, Big 12, and Pac-12 all had assistants chosen from their respective conferences.
The B1G schools with assistants up for the award are Penn State, Ohio State, Illinois, Michigan, and Iowa.
Former Michigan OC Josh Gattis took home the award last season. Gattis is now at Miami as the Hurricanes’ OC/WR coach. Before Gattis, the last B1G assistant to win the award was former Ohio State assistant Tom Herman.
Here’s the B1G assistants that were announced as semifinalists:
- Penn State DC Manny Diaz
- Ohio State DC Jim Knowles
- Illinois DC Ryan Walters
- Iowa DC Phil Parker
- Michigan DC Jesse Minter
