The Big Ten Network crew took a bus tour to check out all 14 teams during fall practice. West Lafayette, Indiana was stop No. 14. BTN analyst Joshua Perry shared his takeaways from Purdue practice after checking out the Boilermakers.

Perry started off by addressing a topic he gets asked about: the Boilermakers’ run game.

“They don’t really run the football. The reality of the situation is that’s not in their DNA. Brohm sees balance differently for this offense. They spent a lot of time working on the trenches today, both offensively and defensively. So, you’re going to see an emphasis on it, but don’t expect it to be a huge feature in this offense.”

Purdue had a stout defense in 2021. Perry assessed the 2022 unit for his second takeaway.

“You talk about this defense and what they did a year ago; how are they going to replicate it? Who’s the guy like George Karlaftis? Well, they’re going to be pretty good,” Perry said. “The secondary has some phenomenal athletes, and their defensive line has more depth than they’ve had in a really long time. I saw some really good play out of them. They’ve got to keep that up to be successful.”

For his final takeaway, Perry looked at the big picture on the season ahead for the Boilermakers and their goal of playing for a conference title.

“One of the big takeaways overall is that the West might look a little bit different this year. It wouldn’t shock me at all to see a team like Purdue or a team like Minnesota playing in the Big Ten Championship Game instead of a team like Iowa or Wisconsin,” Perry said to conclude his video.
