Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh had the 2-quarterback system working last season and it looks like that system will be rolling again in the 2022 season. On Saturday, Harbaugh announced Michigan would start senior Cade McNamara versus Colorado State while sophomore J.J. McCarthy will start when Michigan takes Hawaii.
B1G Network analyst Howard Griffith talked about Harbaugh’s decision: “I thought what Michigan did last year and how they handled this quarterback situation was perfect. I think this is very unusual. He knows what he needs to do to make both people happy and he’s going to make that decision and ultimately he’s going to put the best guy in charge of that team.”
"The only thing that you could say that would be fair is, J.J. got better."

Last season, Michigan finished with the 16th best scoring offense in the nation as they averaged 35.8 points per game with McNamara and McCarthy both being key players for the Michigan offense. There could be a final decision on the full-time starter going into Week 3 of the 2022 season.
