The college football season is just over one week away with B1G West action getting the year started from Ireland.

On Aug. 27, Nebraska and Northwestern will tee it up in Dublin in a Week 0 showdown. Both teams will be hungry to begin a rebound season on the right foot after the two programs combined for 6 wins in 2021.

On the Big Ten Network, analysts Rick Pizzo and Dave Wannstedt provided an early breakdown of the contest. Wannstedt in particular warned the Huskers should be wary of Northwestern.

“Beware of Northwestern,” cautioned Wannstedt. “What year is it? Even year, even numbers…Northwestern strong. I think Northwestern here in this game right here will be prepared.”

For Pizzo, he labeled the contest as particularly important for the Huskers and Scott Frost. Despite beginning the year in Week 0, Nebraska opens with a number of consecutive weeks that could give the Huskers an early boost – or an early deficit – to the season.

“To me, this is remarkably important for Nebraska,” Pizzo explained. “Unlike Northwestern, the Huskers don’t have a week off after this. As a matter of fact, they play a couple of games in a row…If you’re Scott Frost, in my opinion, you can’t lose this game.”
