It might be the deepest position in the B1G heading into 2017. There are plenty of talented running backs throughout the conference.

A few names have stood out throughout the offseason but there are plenty of hidden gems in the conference, each with a unique skill set.

BTN’s Chuck Long was asked to break down his list of top three running backs in the B1G. But it wasn’t just about running the football. The analyst also wanted effective pass-catchers on his board.

Though that changes the game slightly, there wouldn’t be many who would argue with Long about his top three: Saquon Barkley, Justin Jackson and Akrum Wadley.

Barkley is the guy that’s been getting most of the attention this preseason and is considered a favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

Jackson was the B1G’s leading rusher last year and could potentially hit the 1,000-yard mark in all four years of his Northwestern career, which would be just the second time a conference running back has accomplished that feat.

Wadley had a breakout campaign last year and is expected to emerge as one of the top multi-purpose backs in the B1G.
