With the B1G season heading into Week 3, analyst Joshua Perry recently put out his list of the conference’s top 5 defenses. While all are worthy, the top selection will certainly be debated.
Ohio State is ranked third in the nation but their defense is second best in the B1G according to Perry, who gives the edge to Northwestern at No. 1.
Perry explained his decision in a clip for the Big Ten Network.
Ohio State is the highest-ranked B1G 🏈 team, but it’s not Joshua Perry’s highest-ranked defense…yet.
So who is? @RIP_JEP lists his Top 5 defenses among B1G teams who have played two games so far for this week’s Power Rankings.

Iowa, Purdue, and Michigan State round out Perry’s top 5 B1G defenses.
Northwestern held Maryland to 3 points in Week 1 and allowed 20 points against Iowa last week. Meanwhile, Ohio State gave up 17 points against Nebraska and 25 points in Week 2 vs. Penn State.
Both defenses have been strong and served as major factors in their teams’ undefeated starts. It’ll be interesting to see how both units perform the rest of the season and if Perry will eventually swing over to Ohio State.
This Saturday, Northwestern hosts Nebraska (11 a.m. CST/BTN) and Ohio State faces visiting Rutgers (6:30 p.m. CST/BTN).
