Ohio State has added a scorer to its roster.

Friday, the Buckeyes received a verbal commitment from ex-Louisiana guard Cedric Russell. The fifth-year senior was the leading scorer for the Ragin’ Cajuns during the 2020-21 season but entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal following the end of the campaign.

The 6-foot-2 Russell averaged 17.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He was also considering a transfer to Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Marquette and St. John’s, but the Buckeyes ultimately won out.

Russell will have one year of eligibility remaining at Ohio State.

Last season, Russell was a first-team All-Sun Belt selection after his big season. He was a starting guard for the Ragin’ Cajuns for the past three seasons and spent four years with the program.

Ohio State needed to replace some scoring with Duane Washington Jr. keeping his name in the 2021 NBA Draft. Russell will bring the ability score with him to Columbus.
