Seth Towns will not be putting on an Ohio State uniform this year. Head coach Chris Holtmann provided an unfortunate update on the senior forward, who underwent back surgery before the start of 2021-22 season.
Holtmann said Towns will miss the remainder of the season and will continue to rehab in an effort to get back to full strength. Just a few weeks ago, the head coach said there was some hope that Towns might still be able to play at some point this year, but that won’t be the case.
“I’m disappointed for Seth,” Holtmann said, per Adam Jardy of The Columbus Dispatch. “He’s had a go of rough injuries.”

Last season, Towns played in 25 games for the Buckeyes and averaged just less than 11 minutes per contest. He averaged 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game in his first year with the program.
The latest news on Towns is the latest in a serious of disappointing injuries. Before arriving at Ohio State, Towns spent 4 seasons at Harvard. He missed his final 2 years with the program because of season-ending injuries. When he came to Columbus, Towns hadn’t played a game since the 2017-18 season.
While at Harvard, Towns averaged 12.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest as a freshman. The following year, he averaged 16 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, earning All-American Honorable Mention from the Associated Press.
