Cade McNamara’s status has reportedly been decided by Iowa heading into Week 1.
ESPN’s Adam Rittenburg is reporting that the quarterback will play in Iowa’s season opening game against visiting Utah State after previously being questionable with a quad injury.
Sources: Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara is set to play today and make his Hawkeyes debut against Utah State. He returned to practice last week from a quad injury and had been listed as questionable earlier in the week.

McNamara, who transferred this offseason from Michigan, sustained the injury in an open scrimmage on Aug. 12 during a non-contact play while scrambling out of the pocket.
McNamara missed the majority of last season after having knee injury and moved on from Iowa after being edged out by J.J. McCarthy. McNamara passed for 2,576 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions as Michigan qualified for the College Football Playoff in 2021.
The other options at quarterback for Iowa had McNamara been inactive were Joe Labas and Deacon Hill.
Iowa is coming off a 2022 season in which they posted an 8-5 record, capped off with a 21-0 shutout victory vs. Kentucky in the Music City Bowl.
Iowa-Utah State is set for noon EST and will be televised on FS1.
