After transferring from Michigan this off-season to Iowa, quarterback Cade McNamara is expected to help the Iowa offense get going after struggling the past two seasons.

However, he has been dealing with a leg injury that has his status for the opener against Utah State up in the air.

While he said the injury is progressing, he said ultimately, it is up to the coaches and training staff on whether or not he plays on Saturday.

“I am progressing every single day, and I am feeling a lot better,” McNamara said “I am honestly getting better every single day, that decision is just going to come down to the coaches and the medical staff. I have been practicing, not participating in 100 percent of practice, but I have been practicing. My goal to play in as many games as I can possibly can, of course I want to be out there playing with my teammates.”

While his status is still in doubt, the team and coaches have shown enough trust in him to name him a captain for the game against Utah State. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 pm in Iowa.
