Caitlin Clark posts near-triple double in win over Diana Taurasi, Mercury

Caitlin Clark had a big game in Indiana’s 88-82 upset win over the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday afternoon.
Clark totaled 15 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds in the Fever’s victory. She finished just 1 rebound shy of a triple-double, which would have been the first such performance by a rookie in WNBA history.

With the win, Indiana now has a half-game edge over the Chicago Sky for the WNBA’s 8th and final playoff spot. Of course, there’s a long way to go before the playoffs are set, but the Fever appear to be in good position after a slow start to the 2024 season.
This was the first-ever matchup between Clark and legendary point guard Diana Taurasi. Both Clark and Taurasi had rough shooting nights from distance, going 2-for-10 from 3-point range. Taurasi also had just 3 assists compared to 5 turnovers in the Mercury’s loss.
Clark entered this game averaging 16.2 points, 6.6 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game. She’s been one of the most productive rookies in the league this season. Clark is currently -600 to win the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year award, per the latest odds from FanDuel.
