California governor not as optimistic about return to sports as President Trump

On a phone call with commissioners from all major-league sports, President Donald Trump reportedly said that the NFL season should be prepared to hold the 2020 season without any delay. That served as a glimmer of hope for sports fans anywhere, as all athletic events and seasons have either been postponed or canceled in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
California Governor Gavin Newsom is not nearly that optimistic, however. On the same day that Trump told commissioners the NFL should start on time and fans should be able to fill stadiums and arenas by August and September, Newsom painted a drearier picture.
“I’m not anticipating that happening in this state,” Newsom said, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN. “Let me tell you why, we’ve all seen the headlines the last couple of days in Asia where they were opening up certain businesses and now they’re starting to roll back those openings because they’re starting to see some spread, there’s a boomerang. One has to be very cautious here, one has to be careful not to over promise.”
Newsom’s comments will really hit home with college football fans. If he’s not anticipating the NFL playing games on time, it would be impossible for the NCAA to move forward with the college season.
Right now, it’s still really difficult to predict what will happen in the coming months.
