Can Iowa keep the streak alive? Hawkeyes haven’t lost to Missouri in 110 years

Iowa and Missouri football have an interesting history.
The two schools, who will meet next week in the Music City Bowl, have played 13 times throughout history. However, just one of those matchups has come within the last 110 years.
The Hawkeyes defeated Mizzou 27-24 in the 2010 Insight Bowl, which was the schools’ first meeting since 1910. In that game, Missouri beat Iowa by the score of 5-0.
Iowa and Missouri once shared the same conference affiliation. Both were in the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association until 1910. At that point, Iowa, who had also been apart of the Western conference, became a full-time member with Western.
The Western conference included several schools that would later make up the Big Ten: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue and Indiana. Those schools stayed with Western 1953 when they joined the Big Ten.
The split from the MVIAA ended a healthy series that saw 12 total games between 1892 and 1910. The Hawkeyes and Tigers split those evenly with a 6-6 record.
In addition to the 5-0 game, this series has several other unusual final scores: 13-12 in 1909, 10-5 in 1908 and 6-0 in 1902.
So now the question becomes, can Iowa keep bragging rights and increase their lead in a once-healthy rivalry?
ESPN’s Football Power Index projects the Hawkeyes to have a 78.9 percent chance to defeat the Tigers. Iowa has won six straight games and finished in second place in the Big Ten West this season.
Iowa is a consensus 15-point favorite, according to The Action Network.
Kick off for this game is at 3:00 p.m. CT on Dec. 30.
