CBS Sports analysts Brian Jones and Kevin Carter talked about some of the best assistant hires in college football recently. They believe that Ohio State may have knocked it out of the park.
The pair thinks that Jim Knowles was the best assistant hire this offseason. Ohio State had its struggles on defense last year, and Knowles may be able to end them as the Buckeyes’ DC this fall. Jones already knew his answer when the question was asked.
“Jim Knowles, going from Oklahoma State to Ohio State,” said Jones. “You talk about having some better ingredients to cook with? No knock on Oklahoma State and their recruits, I’m just saying that you’ve got a whole slew of 4 and 5 stars there in Columbus.
Carter followed suit, also naming Knowles as his best assistant coaching hire. He believes that Knowles will give the Ohio State defense their toughness back.
“You watch Ohio State last season, where they fell short is along the line of scrimmage on the defensive side of the ball” said Carter. “Stopping the run when Oregon just put it on them. So, Jim Knowles all day long.”
