CBS Sports analysts unanimously pick Big Ten team to win 2026 national championship

CBS Sports’ pregame crew were in the midst of previewing No. 2 Oregon’s season opener on Saturday afternoon against Boise State, when studio anchor Emily Proud posed the following scenario to the 3 college football analysts sitting beside her.
“Raise your hand if you think Oregon is going to win the national championship,” Proud said.
Right then, in unison, Proud and the 3 analysts — Damien Harris, Danny Kanell and Kenjon Barner — all raised their hands, signifying that they are all in agreement that Oregon is finally going to do it in 2026. The Ducks have never won a national title in their still-proud football history, a history that Barner is a part of as a former Oregon star running back.
But with Dante Moore returning at quarterback instead of going to the NFL Draft, with a stacked roster around him and with head coach Dan Lanning at the controls, the CBS Sports quartet were all going with Oregon to finally climb that mountain after being relevant in the national title discussion for so long.
Oregon got to the national title game in 2010 and 2014, falling short against Auburn and Ohio State, respectively, and the Ducks have had numerous other close calls with the holy grail of college football, including last season’s journey all the way to the College Football Playoff semifinals. But they fell to eventual national champion Indiana in a semifinal blowout, breaking hearts once again in Eugene.
Those hearts will be filled with joy come late January though, said the CBS Sports panel, so get ready to celebrate soon Eugene, according to what CBS Sports has laid out on the first full Saturday of the season.
The Ducks’ journey begins with Saturday’s home season opener against Boise State, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
