Purdue enters the 2022-23 season looking to replace a number of pieces from last season’s talented squad. Fortunately, one key piece on the roster could be poised for a breakout season.
According to CBS Sports analyst Jon Rothstein, guard Brandon Newman is a potential “breakout guy” for this season. Newman averaged more 8 points per game across 23 starts as a redshirt freshman in 2020-21 before averaging 4.6 points per game with just one start last season.
Between the departures of Jaden Ivey, Sasha Stefanovic and Eric Hunter, the Boilermakers must replace some key minutes and over 30 points per game. Newman could be poised to step into a bigger role this season.
Purdue’s Brandon Newman only reached double figures five times last season as a sophomore after hitting double figures 12 times as a freshman. Usage rate should spike Post-Jaden Ivey. Breakout Guy.

Newman originally joined Purdue as a 3-star member of the 2019 recruiting class. After redshirting his first year on campus, Newman has averaged 6.4 points per game across 53 appearances.
