CFP Committee chair Rob Mullens shares reasoning behind Ohio State’s No. 1 ranking

The initial College Football Playoff Rankings opened with a bang Tuesday evening!
When the rankings were revealed, Ohio State occupied the No. 1 spot with Penn State locked into No. 4. The rest of the top four was rounded out by LSU and Alabama.
The big discussion immediately after the rankings were revealed surrounded the decision to have Ohio State ahead of LSU. The Tigers have wins over Texas, Florida, and Auburn and are headlined by a Heisman candidate in Joe Burrow.
For Rob Mullens, chairman of the CFP Committee, he said the Committee felt the Buckeyes have been a bit more consistent to this point:
“When you watch Ohio State, they have performed at a very consistent level, really good on both sides of the ball,” explained Mullens. “Really explosive offensive playmakers. And Chase Young is probably as disruptive a defensive player as there is in the country. And when you look at their resume, they’ve performed at a consistently high level every week.”
Obviously, there’s a long way to go this season. But for now, it is good to see the Committee recognize Ryan Day’s squad for what they have been: the best team in the country.
