MVP chatter surrounding the New Orleans Saints is nothing new, but the player at the center of this comment is not the one fans are used to seeing.

For many seasons, you can make the case that quarterback Drew Brees belongs in the discussion for NFL MVP. Unfortunately, he missed extended time with a thumb injury early this season. What is remarkable is that his injury did not derail the year as Teddy Bridgewater led the team well in his absence.

A big part of New Orleans’ offense, no matter who is under center, is ex-Ohio State wide receiver, Michael Thomas. He already has 94 catches on the year for 1,141 yards. Both marks lead the NFL.

Though quarterbacks traditionally draw the spotlight for most award discussions, Chad Johnson tweeted out an interesting case for Thomas to be the MVP. Johnson highlighted the incredible consistency of Thomas, as well as pointing out that opposing defenses have to shape their gameplan around stopping him.

Johnson does have a point. Thomas has at least five catches in every game and 10+ catches five times. However, the flipside of this is that Johnson is also a former All-Pro WR. Maybe he is pushing Thomas’ case as a fellow wideout.
