Charles Woodson has had a decorated college and professional career. Now, the former Michigan and NFL great can add another title to his resume: NFL owner.

The NFL on Tuesday approved Woodson as a member of the Cleveland Browns ownership group, making him a limited partner in a venture that is led by Jimmy and Dee Haslam.

“In my wildest childhood dreams, I never considered the opportunity to become a limited partner of an NFL team, let alone the Cleveland Browns in my home state of Ohio,” Woodson said in a release. “It is among my greatest honors to join the Haslam and Johnson families and the entire Haslam Sports Group to become a limited partner of the Cleveland Browns, one of the NFL’s most storied franchises.”

Woodson, a native of Fremont — about 90 minutes west of Cleveland — starred at Michigan, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 1997. He then was the No. 4 pick in the 1998 NFL Draft, starting a career that spanned 18 seasons as he made a name for himself as one of the best defensive backs in league history.

The College Football and Pro Football Hall of Famer was the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1998, Defensive Player of the Year in 2009, and is a Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers.
