Charlie Jones transferred from Iowa to Purdue in the offseason, and it looks like Jones is due for an increased role with the Boilermakers.

In the first quarter alone, Jones tied his career-best mark for catches in a game. He finished the first quarter with 3 catches for 50 yards, including this deep dart from Aidan O’Connell that set Purdue up for its first points of the season on a field goal.

For further context on those numbers, O’Connell went 7-for-11 for 87 yards. Jones was his favorite target to start the game as no other Boilermaker had more than a single catch.

Jones has 4 career games of 3 catches but has never produced more. Sure looks like he’ll set a new career-high mark before halftime arrives.

Jones will also be used as Purdue’s primary return man, but it looks like he is going to be utilized as a legitimate No. 1 receiver to try and replace David Bell this season.
