Topping the No. 14 Michigan Wolverines for the 15th time in the last 16 years, junior defensive end Chase Young and the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes completed a 12-0 regular season on November 30.

Clinching their spot in Saturday’s B1G Championship Game by defeating the No. 10 Penn State Nittany Lions, 28-17, on November 23, the Buckeyes are gunning for their third straight conference title.

Despite missing two games due to a suspension stemming from a questionable loan, Young has been one of the driving forces behind Ohio State’s success.

Taping an interview which aired on ESPN’s College GameDay with Gene Wojciechowski, he made his case to be considered a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

Saturday Tradition’s own Paul Harvey shared Young’s comments on Twitter:

Appearing in 10 games thus far, the Hyattsville, Maryland product has accumulated 38 tackles (19.5 TFL) and a school-record 16.5 sacks. Now with 30.5 sacks during his three years playing for Urban Meyer and Ryan Day, Young is just 5.5 sacks shy of Mike Vrabel’s program-record (36).

Awarded since its creation in 1935, the only primarily defensive player to win the Heisman was Michigan defensive back/return specialist Charles Woodson in 1997.

Interestingly, Woodson currently works alongside Meyer as analysts on FOX’s BIG NOON KICKOFF.

Kicking at 8:00PM ET, Saturday’s clash between the Buckeyes and the No. 8 Wisconsin Badgers from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis will air on FOX with Gus Johnson, Joel Klatt and “The All-American Girl” Jenny Taft on the call.
