The NFL is mourning the loss of quarterback Len Dawson. Dawson, an All-American at Purdue and a Pro Football Hall of Famer, died at the age of 87 on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the Chiefs took the field for a preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. As you can see below, led by Patrick Mahomes, they started their first possession with a unique tribute to the legendary quarterback, who played for the franchise from 1962 to 1975 and later had his number 16 retired by the organization:

Mahomes was also seen wearing a hoodie during warmups that honored the NFL great:

Dawson was the No. 5 pick in the 1957 NFL Draft after a stellar career at Purdue. He was an All-Big Ten pick in 1955 and 1956, and was the conference’s leader in passing yards in each of his 3 seasons in West Lafayette.

He led the Chiefs to victory in Super Bowl IV and was the game’s MVP that year. He also won 3 championships in the old AFL prior to its merger with the NFL, was a 6-time AFL All-Star, was the AFL MVP in 1962, and an NFL Pro Bowler in 1971.
