Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo of ‘High Heat’ joined Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s ‘First Take’ to talk about the best rivalries in college football. He has a different definition of what a rivalry is than most.

Many great rivalries in the sport were brought up. Alabama-Georgia, Georgia-Florida, Ohio State-Michigan, and USC-Notre Dame were some of the rivalries that were mentioned.

What makes a game a rivalry to Russo is how competitive it is. He referenced Michigan’s record in the rivalry when the game is in Columbus as 1 of the main points of his argument.

“When the last time Michigan won in Columbus? In a rivalry you’ve gotta have both teams be able to win on the road a little bit,” said Russo. “Up until last year, Harbaugh hadn’t even touched Ohio State. That’s the reason why I think the rivalry aspect in the sport right now is problematic.”

The Wolverines had their 1st win in the series since 2011, but that doesn’t matter for Russo. He needs to see Michigan win a lot more for it to be considered a true rivalry in his eyes.
