Cincinnati announces fan attendance plans to start 2020 season

The University of Cincinnati is still working towards a college football season as a member of the AAC. However, the 2020 season will start without fans inside Nippert Stadium, the athletic department announced on Monday,
Cincinnati athletic director John Cunningham sent out a letter to fans on Monday morning, detailing the plans for a safe return to Bearcats football on Sept. 19, when the squad is scheduled to open the season against Austin Peay. It is the only nonconference game on the schedule for Luke Fickell’s team.

“We will start the season without fans in Nippert Stadium,” Cunningham stated. “We will permit fans in the stadium later in the season only if we determine it is safe and appropriate to do so. We are not holding a timeframe on such a determination.”
In the letter, Cunningham also stated that there will be no season-ticket sales for Cincinnati this year and that student-athletes will continue to undergo regular testing and daily health and safety checks.
Currently, Cincinnati is the only college program in the state of Ohio to move forward with a football season. Ohio high schools and the state’s two NFL teams will also be playing this fall.
