CJ Stroud’s dynamic rookie season with the Houston Texans experienced a speedbump this week. Late in the loss to the New York Jets, Stroud was injured and left the game after a hard hit from a defender.

On Wednesday, head coach DeMeco Ryans updated Stroud’s status and outlook. According to Ryans, Stroud is “a little bit better” but has not yet left the concussion protocol.

“C.J., he’s getting a little bit better,” said Ryans. “We’ll see how the week continues to go, but he’s still in the concussion protocol.”

Stroud still being in the concussion protocol on Wednesday certainly puts a damper on his outlook for this week’s game. Stroud has started all 13 games for the Texans with Houston one game off the AFC South lead. The Texans will face the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

So far this season, Stroud has completed 62.4% of his passes for 3,631 yards and 20 touchdowns with just 5 interceptions. His interception percentage of 1.1% is the lowest among all qualified passers in the league, and Stroud is in the top 10 for a number of key QB stats.

Stroud has shined as a rookie and carved out a bright future for himself with the Texans. Hopefully, he’ll be able to get back on the field quickly with the team still in pursuit of a playoff berth.
