CJ Stroud has received a first from the Houston Texans, as the former Ohio State star quarterback has agreed to terms on his 4-year rookie deal.
The Texans and Stroud, their No. 2 overall pick, have agreed that he gets $36.3M overall with a signing bonus of $23.38M, all fully guaranteed. He gets his entire signing bonus upfront, a first for Houston, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported.
In spring workouts, Stroud worked with the second-team offense Tuesday while last year’s starter, Davis Mills, practiced with the starters.
Stroud was a two-year starter for Ohio State, where he threw for 8,123 yards with 85 touchdowns and just 12 interceptions as the Buckeyes went 21-4. His 85 touchdowns over 2 seasons broke a B1G record held by Purdue’s Drew Brees.
The Texans are trying to find some success after Mills has started most of the last 2 seasons, and went 5-22-1 in 28 games with 26 starts as the Texans were among the NFL’s worst teams.
