CJ Stroud has shot out of the gate in the NFL, leading the Houston Texans to a 5-4 start and into contention for the playoffs. As a result, Stroud is already in discussion as a possible MVP candidate as a rookie quarterback, something that is an ultimate rarity in the NFL.

Considering everything that he’s seen, Rex Ryan is ready to say Stroud should have been the clear first pick in the draft over Bryce Young. During ESPN’s “Get Up,” Ryan also said nobody expected this team to win more than 3 games, but the Texans could wind up in the playoffs:

“Let’s hear this comment: This kid should have been the first guy taken in the draft, we all get that,” said Ryan. “If you had to draft today, I think he’s in the top 10 players in the entire league, and he’s a rookie. That’s how unbelievable this kid is.

“And by the way, this team — watch out Jacksonville, they’ve already beat you once. This team could very well win the division with a rookie head coach and a rookie QB that nobody — nobody — thought would win more than 3 games.”
