Cole Van Lanen discusses ‘one-in-a-million chance’ after getting drafted by hometown Packers

The NFL Draft is a time for dreams to come true, and that is exactly what happened for Wisconsin offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen.

Despite a successful career anchoring the line for the Badgers, Van Lanen lasted until the sixth round Saturday. It was then that the Green Bay Packers made the move to draft the hometown kid at pick No. 214.

The move is especially meaningful for Van Lanen who began his career as a high school star in Green Bay. He was a four-star recruit and was rated the No. 2 player out of Wisconsin for the class of 2016 before attending Wisconsin.

On Monday, Van Lanen discussed what he described as a “one-in-a-million chance and opportunity” to be drafted by the Packers:

Though nothing is guaranteed in the NFL, especially for a sixth-round pick, this is undoubtedly an awesome chance for Van Lanen. After appearing in 45 career games with 19 starts at left tackle for the Badgers, he will try to carve out a role for himself with his hometown team.
