With a new NFL season underway, Urban Meyer’s name has again surfaced as a potential candidate as a head coach in the professional ranks. This time, it’s FOX Sports radio personality Colin Cowherd bringing it up.

On Friday, following the New York Jets 37-28 loss to the Denver Broncos to fall to 0-4 this season, rumors are flying that Adam Gase will be fired. Cowherd made the suggestion to hire one of three “elite” coaches. One of those was Meyer.

Along with the three-time national championship-winning coach, Cowherd included Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley and Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll in the conversation.

Meyer is often considered a candidate for NFL jobs considering the amount of success he had at the college level. So far, Meyer hasn’t shown much interest in a return to coaching at either the college or NFL level.

Since retiring from Ohio State following the 2018 season, Meyer has taken on a role as an analyst with FOX. He’s become a fan favorite, providing intriguing insight every week during the Big Noon Kickoff pregame show.

Below are Cowherd’s remarks on the Jets’ coaching job.
