Colin Cowherd: ‘Tom Brady has lapped Wayne Gretzky and Michael Jordan’

Colin Cowherd has said plenty of things recently to draw plenty of attention his way. First, he was unaware Joe Burrow attended Ohio State. Then, he said Ohio State didn’t have the same academic prestige as Michigan, Wisconsin and Penn State.

Those comments drew some attention in a not-so-positive light — especially for folks in the Buckeye state.

But this week, Cowherd actually made an interesting argument as it pertains to another former B1G star and the greatest quarterback in NFL history, Tom Brady. The FOX radio host believes that Brady has become the greatest team sport athlete in history — passing the likes of Wayne Gretzky and Michael Jordan.

Cowherd says it’s not even close.

“People don’t understand this — in my lifetime, we’ve always considered the most dominant team sport athletes to be Wayne Gretzky in hockey and Michael Jordan in basketball. It’s not close anymore,” Cowherd said. “Brady has lapped Gretzky and he’s lapped Michael Jordan.

Not only did Cowherd point to the unusual longevity and success of Brady’s career, but he also pointed to the fact that Brady doesn’t have one of the running mates to help create success like Gretzky and Jordan had.

“The gap between Brady and even Michael Jordan and even Wayne Gretzky is now laughable…Think about Brady, Brady has six Super Bowl rings. No other player in football has that. Michael Jordan has six rings, Bill Russeell’s got 11, Robert Horry’s got seven. There’s multiple Celtics that have more than Brady. Tom Brady is going to break every playoff record. Michael Jordan doesn’t own every playoff record.”

Cowherd certainly makes a compelling argument. We’ve known Brady is the best quarterback for some time now, but he’s creeping into one of the greatest athletes of all-time conversation.

Below is Cowherd’s full sentiment on Brady and why he’s becoming the greatest team sport athlete we’ve seen:
