There couldn’t be much more hype for new Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson.

Whether it’s his 5-star rating, the scouting reviews or seeing him play live, many think the newest member of the Buckeyes backfield has a chance to be a special player in Columbus. He could be one of the best players in Ohio State history.

Henderson’s career in college will begin this fall, as he takes the first time on Thursday, Sept. 2 against Minnesota in TCF Bank Stadium. Where he’ll be on the depth chart is still to be determined.

But 247Sports host and college football analyst Josh Pate believes we’ll see quite a bit of Henderson as a true freshman in 2021. And he’s one guy that Pate is really excited to see this fall.

“He’s probably gonna be one of, if not my favorite, true freshmen to watch this year,” Pate said. “This is a running back for the Buckeyes, he was the No. 22 overall rated player. He’s gonna be a superstar as a true freshman. There’s no other way to put that. Ohio State has Master Teague. They’ve got Miyan Williams. I don’t know how else to put this: It’s just gonna feel different when TreVeyon Henderson touches the ball.

“He’s 5-foot-11, about 200. You don’t have to sacrifice the size to get the speed. You don’t have to sacrifice the physical nature in order to get the burst. When you see him in the open field, at the second level in one-on-one situations for the first time, your jaw’s gonna be on the ground and then you’ll realize he can do some things that no one else on that roster can do. They’re gonna play him a lot as a true freshman — not out of necessity, but out of luxury.”

Teague will probably be the No. 1 option out of the backfield for Ohio State this season, but Henderson could still carve out a substantial role for himself early on. Before taking a snap with the Buckeyes, there’s already a big expectation that he’ll be one of the best newcomers to the B1G.
