Wisconsin is gearing up for its final game of the season, facing off against ACC foe Wake Forest.
Wednesday’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl showdown will be between two programs with traditionally different aspirations. In Madison, the Badgers are expected to always be in the race for the B1G West. Meanwhile, the Demon Deacons out of Winston-Salem, North Carolina are usually doing good just to get to a bowl game.
Unfortunately for the Badgers, COVID-19 complications and a number of other injuries have derailed what initially started as a promising season. The Badgers are 3-3 and are averaging just 22.3 points per game.
The saving grace for Wisconsin has been a dominant Jim Leonhard-led defense that is allowing just 15.7 points per game, a mark good for sixth-best in the nation. It is exactly that defense that Brad Cunningham with Action Network believes is the key to Wednesday’s game.
According to Cunningham, the defense of the Badgers is in line to dominant, leading him to go with the favorite in his pick:
I think Wisconsin’s defense should dominate this game. This will be the toughest test of the season for Wake Forest’s big-play offense, and I don’t think it’ll be able to move the ball consistently.
I have the Badgers projected as -12.13 favorites in this game, so I think there’s some value on Wisconsin at -7.5.
Cunningham went on to say that he would take Wisconsin up to -9 in the game against Wake Forest.
Wednesday’s kickoff is set for 12 pm EST on ESPN. Tune in to find out if Cunningham’s pick holds true.
