One college football player was penalized for a regretful toss on Thursday night. The infraction? He was flagged for tossing an opponent’s cleat.

The player is Max Tooley, a linebacker for BYU. His penalty came after a 3rd-down stop for the Cougars and could have proved costly.

After stopping Utah State on 3rd-and-2, Tooley tossed a cleat from the bottom of the pile. It generated a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and kept the drive by Utah State alive.

Fortunately for Tooley and BYU, the penalty did not come back to haunt him. Utah State did make it inside the 10-yard line but eventually fumbled the ball away to the Cougars.

We’ll see if Thursday night’s action out west provides any other “entertainment” moving forward.
