College Football Playoff expansion is reportedly going to happen.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that the CFP Board of Managers reached a decision on Friday, and the next format will have 12 teams in it.
The internet’s reaction to the news was priceless. There were reactions from all extremes. Some people simply posted hilarious gifs, while others seemed to act like it was the end of the world. Others really like the idea, stating that it gives more teams a chance at a national title.
Some believe that a move like this will make the regular season lose its importance. The move won’t happen until 2026, at the latest. This is partly due to the fact that ESPN’s contract with the CFP expires after the 2025 season.
This could be a turning point for college football, if it happens. Here are some of the best reactions from when the news broke around the internet:
“Son, college football used to have the best regular season in sports. Every game was important.”

Folks will love seeing Bama and Ohio State and Georgia and Clemson every year guaranteed now …like they haven’t been complaining about the same teams making it all the time. Now that will truly be the norm.

I’m here for the CFB Cinderella stories we will get as a result of this. A MAC team taking down the likes of Bama, Notre Dame, and OSU in the playoffs? Sign me up.
