Notre Dame continues its unique 2020 schedule of playing exclusively within the ACC. This is the matchup the Irish have most certainly been looking at when the schedule was released.
For Clemson, facing its toughest ACC competitor could not have come at a worse time. Tiger quarterback Trevor Lawrence is dealing with COVID-19 and will not play in the game. Lawrence missed Saturday’s win against Boston College, and his absence was apparent as Clemson eked out a victory.
Based on Notre Dame’s track record under Brian Kelly, the Irish still have to show the world they can beat a big-time opponent in primetime. There’s a chance if Notre Dame wins, people will be quick to dismiss the win because of Lawrence’s absence. But it will still count in the standings and may have a major impact on the College Football Playoff.
