College GameDay announces Week 15 destination

ESPN’s College Gameday will be at Michie Stadium this Saturday for a historic clash between Army and Navy.

And it’s fitting that the top college football program will be at the first game hosted by one of the participants since 1943. There will be no neutral location this year, lending an interesting atmosphere to the game.

Due to COVID-19, Army will host this year’s game due to fan and seating limits in Pennsylvania where the game was to be held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Michie Stadium will allow the cadets and the midshipmen to attend Saturday’s rivalry game, lending an important aspect to the unique dynamic in this rivalry.

Last year, Navy won convincingly 31-7, snapping a three-game losing streak to Army. The last three games have all been played in Philadelphia, which has hosted a total of 89 of these contests.

During World War II, Annapolis hosted the 1942 game and Army held the next year. Since then, it has been at a neutral venue, very often in Philadelphia or Baltimore or, on occasion at the Meadowlands in northern New Jersey.

Navy won that meeting in 1943 at storied and historic Michie Stadium, 13-0.
