No. 3 Michigan State is quietly one of the top teams in the nation, just behind No. 1 and a one-loss No. 2 Alabama. They are coming off one of the best wins in all of College Football with a 37-33 home win over No. 7 Michigan.
On College GameDay, there is plenty of worry of fatigue and remaining hype from the win over their rivals as No. 3 Michigan State prepares for a dangerous Purdue team. While some of the analysts believe Michigan State will get it done, some believe Michigan State will be upset.
Here is what former Michigan star cornerback/punt returner Desmond Howard had this to say about this game versus Purdue, “you look at this game, it’s a perfect recipe for an upset. They’re No. 3 in the nation. They’re coming off a huge win. Then you’ve got the Heisman frontrunner running back. But Mel Tucker is the X-factor in this equation.”
Former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit has this to say about the constant talk of Michigan State on upset alert, “I just feel like the greatest thing that’s happened for Mel Tucker is there’s so much noise about this game. I’m tired of hearing it. Can you imagine being a Michigan State football player? or Michigan State? … I think they’ve heard so much about Purdue, they’re gonna turn around and whip Purdue’s fanny.”
Former Indiana head coach Lee Corso was less optimistic over Michigan State as he had this to say about the game versus Purdue, “I see a letdown from Michigan State. Why? They’ve had close games against Indiana and Nebraska. Purdue, at home, on the grass. Upset.”
According to FanDuel, Michigan State is only coming into this game a 2.5-point favorite.
