Iowa picked up a dominant 51-14 win at Maryland on Friday night in a matchup of previous-undefeated teams.

It was a stunning margin of victory for the Hawkeyes, who have consistently looked solid all year long. It was also the first sign of weakness for a Maryland team that boasted one of the best offenses in the Big Ten through the first four weeks of the season.

On Saturday morning, the College GameDay crew spoke about what the win meant for Iowa.

“Every once in awhile, the stars align,” Kirk Herbstreit said of the Hawkeyes. “They’ve got some skill, they’ve got some talent. They’ve got a quarterback. And they also play complimentary football. It’s not always sexy. It’s not speed and tempo, they just play complimentary, solid football.”

Desmond Howard had even more praise.

“The most impressive team I’ve seen in the Big Ten, by far,” Howard said.

Lastly, Rece Davis commented on the Hawkeyes’ defense, which helped produce a +7 turnover differential on Friday night vs. the Terps.

“I think their offense is getting better and their defense is flat out legit,” Davis said.

Iowa hosts Penn State in Week 6 in what will be one of the most important games in the country.
