College hoops career over for Ohio State transfer guard

Abel Porter will not play this year for Ohio State as the transfer guard has called an end to his collegiate career.
A graduate transfer from Utah State, Porter will not participate this year for Ohio State due to what the program said in a statement is “a non-COVID related medical condition.” Porter, a guard, transferred into the program this past spring.
“This has been a difficult past few weeks for Abel and his family,” Ohio State basketball coach Chris Holtmann said in a statement. “He is a tremendous person and I know he is very appreciative for the opportunity to be a Buckeye. Abel has expressed how thankful he is for the fantastic medical care he has received. He will remain a part of our program.”
Last season, Ohio State finished 21-10 with an 11-9 record in the Big Ten. Porter was being counted on as a potentially important piece for the Buckeyes as they re-stocked their backcourt depth this offseason.
Backcourt depth is a concern for Ohio State. While they added two four-star players in their 2020 class, both Eugene Brown and Zed Key are forwards.
Last season for Utah State, the guard played 25.6 minutes per game. In 34 games – all starts – he averaged 5.6 points per game and 3.2 assists per game. The Aggies went 26-8 and finished second in the Mountain West Conference.
