Colston Loveland might be the best tight end in the entire country, and he has all the tools to be a future playmaker in the NFL.

Listed at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, Loveland is a prototypical combination of size, speed, hands and blocking ability to become a star TE at the next level. For now, he’s terrorizing opposing defenses for Michigan as the team’s leading receiver, even after missing the Week 4 game vs. USC.

So, just how good is Loveland? Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale believes the TE is so good he can be compared to some of the NFL stars at the position, even joking Loveland might have the potential to date Taylor Swift.

“I think it would be okay to be compared to some of those tight ends in the league, which he’ll be compared to here in a little bit,” said Martindale. “He might be able to date Taylor Swift.”

That, of course, is a reference to superstar TE Travis Kelce, one of the all-time greats at the position who has helped the Kansas City Chiefs win 3 Super Bowls and is a 4-time All-Pro selection. Loveland has a similar makeup to Kelce, but there’s still a long way to go to reach that level of accomplishments.

For now, fans are hoping Loveland can get back on the field after he sat out vs. USC with an injury. After a breakout sophomore season with 45 catches for 649 yards last season, Loveland leads the Wolverines with 19 catches for 187 yards so far in 2024.
