How good is Ohio State? One stat would suggest its been playing “complimentary football”

According to the Buckeyes’ Twitter account, Ohio State ranks top 4 in offensive and defensive production. The Buckeyes currently rank 3rd in total defense and 4th in total offense through the first 7 games.

With the return of quarterback C.J. Stroud, plus a plethora of talent up front, the Buckeyes’ offense was expected to improve from a season ago. So far, the loss of star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has yet to hamper the offensive production of Stroud in the passing game.

Currently, the Heisman favorite leads the nation in passing touchdowns (28) and passer rating (203.9), while ranking 2nd in yards per attempt (10.8). As a unit, Ohio State is averaging 517.4 yards per game.

The changes made to the defensive side of the ball have drastically elevated Ohio State’s reputation entering 2022. First-year coordinator Jim Knowles now has the Buckeyes ranked top-5 in pass defense (149 yards per game), 3rd-down conversions (24.5% success rate) and scoring (14.9 points per game).
