Matta stepped down from his post at Ohio State after the 2016-17 season, citing health concerns.
However, reports from 247Sports’ Indiana affiliate and the Indianapolis Star are refuting that Indiana and Matta came to an agreement.
Source within IU's athletic department tells me reports Indiana agreed a deal with former Ohio State coach Thad Matta that then fell apart due to medical concerns are wide of the mark. Search remains ongoing. #iubb

Zach Osterman’s subsequent story in the Indianapolis Star indicates that it’s unclear whether or not Matta and IU have spoken formally about the vacant head coaching job.
Matta was Ohio State’s coach from 2004 to 2017. He made two Final Fours with the Buckeyes and won multiple regular season and postseason Big Ten championships.
Other names to be mentioned with this search include former NBA coach Mike Woodson and Loyola coach Porter Moser.
