Breaking news hit the B1G on Wednesday morning, with Wisconsin announcing that all football-related activities have been paused for 7 days due to an increase in positive COVID-19 test results. Saturday’s game between the Badgers and Nebraska will be canceled.

Wisconsin reported 12 new positive tests this week, which included head coach Paul Chryst.

That’s devastating news to both programs. Wisconsin was coming off a convincing 45-7 win over Illinois to open the season while Nebraska put up a strong first half against Ohio State before falling to the powerful Buckeyes in the final 30 minutes.

It’s the first game of the B1G season to be canceled due to COVID-19 protocols in place. But it may not be the only one.

Because of Wisconsin’s 7-day pause, it could put the Nov. 7 showdown against Purdue in jeopardy. The Badgers won’t be able to resume activities until at least next Wednesday — at the earliest — meaning they’d have just three days to prepare for the Boilermakers.

It’s something to keep an eye on moving forward.
