Former Northwestern Swiss Army knife Kain Colter reportedly has a deal in place to join an NFL team.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Colter will be the first free agent signing for the new Los Angeles Rams.

As a three-year starter at Northwestern, Colter racked up 2,180 rushing yards, 2,160 passing yards and 683 receiving yards.

Colter went undrafted out of Northwestern in 2014 and was signed to the Minnesota Vikings practice squad. But he was waived by the team before the 2015 season and he spent the year as a free agent.

Colter made more headlines off the field than on it after his college career was over.

He was the co-founder of the College Athletes Players Association, which was a movement designed to recognize scholarship athletes as employees of the university with the right to collectively bargain. The National Labor Relations Board ultimately declined jurisdiction on the matter, which meant that Kolter’s efforts came up short.

It remains to be seen which position Colter will try to earn a roster spot at.
