Crossing rivalry lines: Purdue legend Drew Brees set to call Notre Dame football games this fall

Purdue fans will always share a love for legendary quarterback Drew Brees. They may not like his new gig in the broadcast booth, though.
Announcing his retirement over the weekend, Brees already has his next job in line. The NFL legend and former Boilermaker will be joining the NBC Sports crew this season as a studio analyst for Football Night in America on Sunday nights. That much Purdue fans can get on board with.
In addition to his role as a studio analyst, though, Brees will also be in the broadcast booth for Notre Dame games during the 2021 season. He will be replacing former NFL head coach and Super Bowl winner Tony Dungy as an analyst for the Fighting Irish.
Mike Tirico will still handle play-by-play duties for the network’s coverage of Notre Dame.
Purdue and Notre Dame have had a bitter gridiron rivalry in the past, meeting a total of 84 times in their history. The two used to play annually, but the Irish backed out of the rivalry contest following the 2014 season.
Notre Dame owns a 56-26-2 advantage all-time in the series and the Irish have won the last seven straight games against the Boilers. The two teams will actually renew their rivalry this fall, as Purdue will travel to South Bend to play Notre Dame on Sept. 18.
Purdue and Notre Dame then have a home-and-home series that will played every year from 2024-2028.
