Curt Cignetti reveals reasoning behind viral ‘Google me’ boast

Curt Cignetti arrived at Indiana with all the bravado that accompanies a head coach with an impressive all-time record. However, he had yet to put together that kind of performance at the highest conferences in college football.
During the offseason, he stunned some fans when he delivered a viral comment, telling people to “Google me. I win” when asked about turning around the Hoosiers. Questions about turning IU football around are valid considering the up-and-down performances and historic futility in Bloomington.
However, Cignetti explained during an interview with Pat McAfee that the original comment was born from frustrations at the press conference. He said it only came about after prolonged questions about why he thought he could make IU successful on the gridiron.
“I got asked for the fifteenth time how am I possibly gonna get this done and I was tired and that’s when I put my head down and I finally just said look, Google me, okay? I win,” explained Cignetti with a chuckle.

While the job in 2024 is far from finished, Cignetti has led a magnificent 6-0 start for the program. He pointed back to his success being tied to having a blueprint and working every single day.
As for his comments to fans and media along the way, Cignetti knows he had to do something to get fans interested in the program. That seems to be working well so far.
“You’ve got to have a blueprint and a plan and you’ve got to work it every day and it’s a process,” Cignetti explained.
“…When I got here I just detected this gloom around the program, this hopelessness. That night the first night we’re here at the basketball game, I said what I said. Now I did that to get a reaction from the crowd, 17, 000 strong, but I also had to set expectations & get people excited.”
