Curt Cignetti says Indiana isn’t getting much support ‘to be rated higher in the BCS’

Curt Cignetti knows Indiana will not get a ton of support from anyone outside of Bloomington as it relates to the postseason. However, that’s not his focus with the Hoosiers taking things one day at a time and one game at a time this season.

Still, that method has worked out so far with Indiana clawing past Michigan, 20-15, to reach 10-0 on the season. It’s the first 10-win season of any variety for the Hoosiers, and Cignetti has already staked himself to the best start of any IU coach in program history.

After the win over Michigan, Cignetti addressed IU’s outlook and admitted the program didn’t grab any style points on Saturday. However, he still believes it is a good win and took aim at the ranking of the Hoosiers on the initial College Football Playoff rankings.

“It’s a good win. Not many style points there, not many people banging the drum saying Indiana ought to be rated higher in the BCS and all that good stuff,” cracked Cignetti. “But the Indiana Hoosiers are 10-0 and have a week off. So coach Cignetti’s got a day off tomorrow.”

It’s likely Cignetti is well-aware of the current CFP format and the committee involved in the process. And, for what it’s worth, Indiana was a top 10 team Tuesday night, so the Playoff outlook for the Hoosiers is still positive.

The comment from the coach is likely more directed at the fact Indiana was positioned behind a handful of one-loss teams in spite of being undefeated. But all he’s worried about is a win over a loss because they all count the same.

“At the end of the day, they all count as one,” said Cignetti. “Whether it’s 72-6 or 3-2, they count as one. And you know what, we’re going to take the win over the Michigan Wolverines.”

Now, Indiana hits a bye in Week 12. After that, each week will be a shot at even more history for the program with the Playoff and Big Ten Championship Game quickly approaching.
