Dabo Swinney misattributes rivals, downplays significance of rivalries in the B1G

Dabo Swinney fired a stray in his weekly press conference on Tuesday.
When talking about the historic South Carolina-Clemson rivalry, the Tigers’ head coach said that he appreciates being a part of a big-time rivalry and said that one B1G rivalry — that doesn’t even exist — doesn’t compare.
“Northwestern and Indiana probably isn’t — they’re probably not having marriages break up over that,” Swinney said. “No offense to Northwestern and Indiana, I don’t even know if they play each other.”
Obviously, Swinney has no interest in conferences outside of the ACC or SEC, because Northwestern and Indiana don’t consider each other rivals. This weekend, the Wildcats will face Illinois and the Hoosiers will face Purdue in their respective rivalries.
Swinney says that his rivalry with South Carolina is superior to others, though it hasn’t been much of a rivalry recently.
Clemson leads the all-time series 72-42-4 and the Gamecocks haven’t won since 2014. The margins have also been pretty wide in Clemson’s favor over the last few years.
