Damar Hamlin made a step forward in his recovery on Friday. The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the good news.

Hamlin had his breathing tube removed and was able to talk with teammates again. Hamlin had a breathing tube in his throat since Monday, but had it removed on Friday which is great news. Hamlin is now able to fully breathe on his own.

Hamlin collapsed on the field after going into cardiac arrest on Monday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals. An ambulance had to come on the field and take Hamlin to a local Cincinnati hospital.

He was taken by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Pitt after playing there from 2016-2020. Hamlin has been a solid option in the Bills secondary this season, appearing in 15 games. Hamlin has recorded 91 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 6 tackles for loss this season.

While it’s important to note that Hamlin has a long way to go, this is a huge step forward. Stay tuned for more updates about Hamlin.
